Christopher L. Shelby, M.D.Dr. Christopher Shelby, MD was the first surgeon in Louisiana to be certified using the LenSx® femtosecond laser for cataract surgery. LenSx technology provides blade-free precision and accurate results. Additionally, his partner, Dr. Wyche Coleman, III followed him in becoming the second surgeon in Louisiana to be certified. Dr. Shelby also provides LASIK eye surgery using the latest technology such as the FS200 Aqua and Allegretto Wavelight-Q lasers.

The inventor of Mobile Eye Technology

Dr. Shelby along with Dr. Coleman, designed breakthrough mobile eye technology that lets retinal images be taken and transmitted with an Apple iPhone. The device is approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for use in the United States. Welch-Allyn is a leading medical diagnostic equipment manufacturer and has licensed this brand-new technology.

Dr. Shelby provides LenSx Femtosecond laser training to fellow ophthalmologists and speaks on cutting-edge surgical techniques to physicians and audiences nationwide.

Education, Honors, Memberships

Dr. Shelby earned his medical degree from LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport, Louisiana where he served his internship and residency as well. After establishing himself as a leader in eye care, Dr. Shelby opened the Willis-Knighton Eye Institute. Honored as a Fellow (FAAO) American Academy of Ophthalmology, he is also a member of the Shreveport Medical Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.


Dr. Shelby is married and has three children. He is the son of pioneering heart surgeon Dr. Stan Shelby.
